THE SEBAGO SHOE GUIDE

A Guide to Styles, Materials & Craftsmanship

From loafers to boat shoes, every pair tells a story of heritage, carefully selected materials and craftsmanship. Discover the distinctive features of different footwear styles, the construction techniques behind them and the details to consider when choosing the Sebago style that best suits you.

START WITH THE RIGHT FIT

Discover how to measure your feet, choose the right size and find the fit that works best for you.

Every Sebago shoe has its own character. Leather, construction and design all influence how a shoe feels on the foot. Understanding these differences is the first step towards lasting comfort.

PENNY LOAFERS

A penny loafer should feel snug and secure, particularly around the instep and heel, without causing discomfort.

A slight movement of the heel can be normal at first, but the shoe should never slip off while walking.

Natural leather gradually softens and adapts to the shape of the foot, so initial stiffness does not necessarily mean the shoe is too small.

BOAT SHOES

Originally designed for life on deck, boat shoes combine flexibility and comfort with nautical-inspired details.

On styles featuring a 360° lacing system, the fit can be adjusted around the foot for a more secure feel.

Traditionally worn without socks, boat shoes have become an enduring expression of relaxed American style.

THE CHARACTER OF LEATHER

Each material gives footwear its own distinctive look and character. From the natural texture of full-grain leather to the softness of suede, explore the key types of leather used in Sebago collections and discover their unique characteristics.

FULL-GRAIN LEATHER

Made from the finest outer layer of the hide, full grain leather preserves its natural grain and distinctive character. Strong and breathable, it develops a rich patina and subtle shine over time.

FIT & FEEL

Full grain leather may feel firmer at first, but gradually softens and adapts to the shape of the foot with wear. Initial stiffness does not necessarily mean the shoe is too small.

SUEDE

Known for its soft, velvety texture and matte finish, suede creates a refined yet relaxed appearance. Its delicate surface features subtle variations in tone and requires particular care to protect it from water and stains.

FIT & FEEL

Naturally soft, lightweight and flexible, suede offers a comfortable feel from the very first wear.

NUBUCK

Enriched with oils and waxes, waxed leather combines durability with a distinctive, naturally polished appearance. Its characteristic pull-up effect creates subtle variations in colour when the leather bends, developing a unique patina over time.

FIT & FEEL

The rich blend of oils and waxes makes the leather supple and flexible from the start, providing an immediately soft and comfortable feel.

WAXED LEATHER

Enriched with oils and waxes, waxed leather combines durability with a distinctive, naturally polished appearance. Its characteristic pull-up effect creates subtle variations in colour when the leather bends, developing a unique patina over time.

FIT & FEEL

The rich blend of oils and waxes makes the leather supple and flexible from the start, providing an immediately soft and comfortable feel.

CRAZY HORSE LEATHER

Full grain leather treated with natural oils and waxes for a distinctive rustic, vintage appearance. Its characteristic pull-up effect creates tonal variations with movement and wear, allowing each pair to develop a rich, individual patina.

FIT & FEEL

Combining the compact structure of full grain leather with a rich waxed finish, Crazy Horse has a robust, textured character. The overall fit depends on the shoe's construction.

CRAFTED DIFFERENTLY

The way a shoe is constructed defines its structure, flexibility and feel. Rooted in traditional shoemaking techniques, Sebago combines craftsmanship and carefully selected materials to create footwear designed to stand the test of time.

UPPER CONSTRUCTION

TUBULAR

The leather upper wraps around the lower part of the foot, creating a flexible, hand-sewn structure. This construction allows the shoe to feel particularly soft and adapt naturally to the foot. (Featured Styles: Classic Dan, Docksides Portland, Askook, Keuka)
