Lasts & Fit
A last is a piece of wood, metal or synthetic material roughly following the shape of the foot and acting as a form on which a shoe or boot is made. It is the foundation or ""vital center"" of all our footwear.
Women's Specific Fit
Sebago Footwear is specifically designed for men and women, with entirely separate lasts for each. Our women's last takes into account:
- Women's feet are narrower than men's at the ball, achilles tendon and heel.
- Women have proportionally longer toes than men.
- Women have a higher instep and arch.
- Women's calf muscles are longer (they carry further down into the shoe).
Sebago Fit Characteristics
Sebago Classics feature positive fit characteristics, with ""combination"" lasts that offer room in the forefoot while keeping the heel snug. Designed to be worn with a dress weight sock, Sebago classics fit true to size and width definitions. Sebago Casual styles are designed to be worn with or without socks. Lasts and patterns are constructed with ""combination"" lasts that offer room in the forefoot while keeping the heel snug.
Sebago Casual Marine styles are designed to be worn without socks. Lasts and patterns are constructed to give the foot ample room to move while supporting the arch and remaining secure at the heel. Sebago Performance Marine styles are designed for extreme sport and performance conditions. Unlike trail hikers, these styles are lasted and designed to be worn without socks to offer a full and comfortable fit. Our performance boots can be worn with wool or other wicking socks in extreme weather conditions.
